How to Choose the Perfect Windshield

From racing double-bubbles to touring shields, learn how aerodynamics impact rider fatigue at high speeds.

The Windblast War

At 80 mph, the wind blast against a rider's chest acts like a parachute, constantly trying to peel you off the back of the motorcycle. Over the course of a multi-hour ride, fighting this windblast leads to severe neck and core fatigue.

Selecting the proper windshield profile is the key to creating a pocket of still air, dramatically improving both comfort and high-speed aerodynamics.

Double Bubble vs. Touring

For sportbikes, the 'Double Bubble' profile is the industry standard. It features a secondary raised bubble in the center of the screen that pushes the air just high enough to clear the helmet of a rider in a full tuck position, without compromising the bike's aggressive lines.

For touring or adventure bikes, a taller, wider 'Touring Screen' is necessary. These often feature an aggressive lip at the top to throw the turbulent air completely over the rider's head, creating a quiet pocket perfect for upright riding.

Tint Options and Visibility

When customizing in BikeModifier, you'll see options for Clear, Light Smoke, and Dark Smoke. While Dark Smoke looks incredibly aggressive and pairs beautifully with dark paint schemes, remember that on a sportbike, you must look through the screen when in a full racing tuck.

For dedicated track bikes or night riding, always stick to a Clear or Light Smoke screen.

"A good windshield doesn't just protect you from the wind; it slices through it, making the entire motorcycle more efficient."
